28 Days of Commander Shepard
1. Forget my Name: What is Shepard’s first and middle name? Are they important or meaningful names? How do they feel about their name?
Rachel Jane Shepard
Rachel means Ewe or female sheep. So semi meaningful with the last name Shepard, but it was picked because her family liked the name. She doesn't mind the name, rarely if ever uses her middle name, and at this point most people just call her by her last name.
2. All in the Family: Did Shepard have siblings? Parents? How was their relationship with family members?
She had a large family. Two younger brothers, a younger sister, parents and grandparents. There's more info about them here but she loved them very much.
3. Starchild: How was Shep’s childhood? Friends, schooling - did they like where they grew up?
It was a good childhood, she liked Mindoir and had a few close friends. School she was pretty good at, especially when it came to technology and languages. Nothing out of the ordinary before the attack.
4. My Bad Reputation: Is Shepard a War Hero, Sole Survivor, or Ruthless type? How does it affect them?
Sole Survivor. That on top of being the only one to survive Mindoir left Shepard with a strong case of survivor's guilt. Mindoir made her push herself harder, Akuze made her accept nothing but the best from herself. It's one of the reasons she does everything she can and sees it as nothing more as part of her job.
5. What If: If Shep wasn’t a soldier, what would they have been? What did they want to be as a child?
If not a solider possibly an engineer of some sort, she was always interested in travelling and seeing new cultures. And she would have liked to work with tech if she could. As a child she wanted to travel with her brothers and sister.
6. Keep it Classy: What class is Shepard? Did their class evolve over the course of the games?
Infiltrator. A tech savvy soldier with a sniper rifle, the perfect role for Shepard. It stayed the same throughout the games.
7. Chink in the Armour: What colours does Shepard wear, and why? Are they a fan of heavy or light armour?
She wears light armour and it's red in colour. She wears it because she likes red, and if you read too much into it, you might be able to make a case that she wants to make herself a target rather then the people she's with and uses the red as a chance to do this.
However it might also be because she likes red. You'll have to make up your own mind.
She likes light armour because it's easier to move in.
8. Weapon of Choice: Does Shep have a favourite weapon? A favourite method of killing?
Yes she does. Sniper rifle and pistol are her weapons of choice. For Sniper rifle, Mantis or Viper and sometimes a Widow. Pistol, she's not picky but Predator or Carnfiex are used a lot.
Method of killing? Either cryo ammo and incinerate or sniper head shot.
9. Casual Affair: When not in armour or uniform, what does Shepard wear? What do they wear when partying?
When not in uniform Shepard wears whatever she has laying around. Which is normally a uniform so she's not out of uniform much. She has a hoodie that she wears a lot now, she wore a brown outfit a lot while after the collectors and refound again and wore that to the party. Sometimes she wears a black dress when she has to.
10. Friends 5eva: Who is Shepard’s best friend? Why?
Shepard has a lot of best friends but for the sake of picking one, Garrus. He's been with her from the start and is the person she wants next to her when she has to walk into hell. He cheers her up and helps her keep focused on what's important and stops her from driving herself crazy while the galaxy is falling apart around them.
11. Undercover Lover: Who is Shepard’s love interest? Why?
Someone who might tie for best friend spot up there. Tali is someone Shepard trusts and respects and is also the one she fell in love with.
(Or if we're going with canon Shepard it's Garrus, but this journal is for Rachel Shepard AU most of the time.)
12. We Three: Who is in Shepard’s favourite shore party? Or do they chop and change?
That's impossible to pick. She brings different people all the time. Tali, Garrus, Mordin, Legion, EDI, Jack, Kasumi, Wrex, Grunt, Miranda, Zaeed, Ashley, Samara, Liara, James, Kaiden, not Jacob
Everyone.
Jacob annoys her, and it took a while to warm up to Miranda but she did.
13. Land Amongst the Stars: What’s Shepard’s favourite galactic location? Why?
She loves the Citadel simply because it's just filled with so many cultures mixed together. She'd like to be able to look around more when the galaxy isn't falling apart or the place is on fire.
14. Man’s Best Friend: Does Shepard have any pets? Why/why not?
Yes she does. She has some fish that get many names and they all die a lot until she manages to buy a V.I for them. She also buys a space hamster that despite all the odds manages to survive and she became highly attached to him because of that. She calls him Max.

15. In Something We Trust: Is Shepard religious? Do they have any key beliefs or moral motifs that guide them?
She actually is, but more in a vague idea that there's something after death. She doesn't talk about it much. She believes that you have to do your best be kind and generous even when the world isn't, but that's more her family bringing her up like that.
16. Fire and Ice: Paragon or Renegade? Why?
Paragon
for the most part. She'll let loose with renegade at times but for the most part she's the patron saint of the paragon side. Queen of the girl scouts and honestly believes in the best of people.
17. Among Ancestors: What is Shepard’s racial ancestry? Do they feel closely linked with their cultural identity?
Her family moved from Earth to Mindoir and she was born on Mindoir. Her family lived in Canada, and if you trace it back far enough her roots are in Scotland. She doesn't feel very closely linked as her family is all dead.
18. No Place Like Home: How does Shepard feel about Earth?
Earth isn't so much a home to her as it is a symbol. It represents humanity as a whole during the war with the reapers. She'd only been there a few times, and she feels a bit guilty that she doesn't feel as strongly connected to earth as she feels she should. However it is still the home planet and she feels she needs to defend it.
That being said, she has no desire to live there after the war.
19. Down-time: What does Shep do for fun when off duty?
She goes around and talks to people or tinkers with some tech things. Or she does work until someone forces her to stop. Mostly spend time with friends.
20. NSFW: Does Shepard have any fetishes, kinks, or turn ons? Or are they not very sexually inclined?
I have no idea. Some people might joke that she likes aliens, but she may punch them so it's best not to make these jokes.
21. Human After All: How does Shepard feel about Artificial Intelligence?
She sees it as something that deserves a chance to be free. EDI, Legion and the rest of the Geth have made her believe that there is no reason why A.I shouldn't be considered alive.
22. Exceptions to the Rule: What is the one thing that Shepard bends the rules for? Do they have a weakness, or perhaps a solid moral line they refuse to cross?
Do not hurt her crew, you will pay for it. It mostly depends on the situation, but Shepard will pull a few renegade tricks now and then.
Or just pistol whip you if you are torturing your brother
23. What’s your Poison: What would Shepard order at a bar? Would they buy the drinks?
Whatever is being served. And it would depend on how much she'd want to be able to walk afterwards.
And possibly she'd buy the drinks.
24. So you think you can Dance: How bad is Shepard really?

No really, she's pretty bad. But she doesn't really care and dancing is supposed to look stupid anyway.
25. My Body is a Canvas: Ink, scars and piercings? Tell us all about Shepard’s markings.
She used to have pierced ears but let them grow over when she joined the military. She's thought of getting a tattoo but as of yet has nothing.
She had a rather prominent facial scar from Akuze and a few others from her past but they vanished for the most part after she was brought back. She is now in the process of getting new ones, but it takes a lot more to scar her these days. She misses the one on her face a little.
26. No Regrets: But what does Shepard regret the most?
Ahahaha...what doesn't she regret? She regrets surviving half the time. She regrets not being able to save her family or her squad. She regrets not being able to warn the Batarians about the relay. She regrets far too many things then she should.
She is a ball of regrets, which is why she needs her team.
27. In My Head: What are some of your personal headcanons regarding the Mass Effect universe?
Half the backstory I made up for Shepard is headcnon
Also Legion did not die because it was thrown in for shock value and if you say otherwise you are wrong and should be punched. Probably a lot of other stuff as well I just can't think of right now.
28. The End of All Things: How did it end for Shepard? Control, Synthesis, Destroy or Rebel? Or do you headcanon another ending?
Destroy AU
Repears are destroyed however EDI and the Geth are fine as star child is a lying liar who lies. Which fits, him being reaper and all. The citadel is not totally destroyed just damaged, and Shepard is alive.
Aka: one of the reasons I shall probably not have Shepard in a normal game, because unrelenting denial is what I use in this series, almost as much as the Alien franchise of two movies and nothing more.
